Why stop smoking?
Smoking can reduce your lifespan by ten years. Think about what you could do with all that time.
Smoking 20 cigarettes a day costs you more than £1,800 a year. Think about what you could do with that money.
You could spend more time with your family and friends, maybe take up a new hobby or go on the holiday you always wanted.
Stop smoking now and you have a chance to reduce the harm caused to your body. For example, stopping smoking will reduce your risk of serious illnesses such as cancer, stroke and heart disease.
Then there’s the extra cash. Smoking 20 cigarettes a day costs you more than £1,800 a year. Think about what you could do with that money.
The best news is that NHS Lanarkshire’s Stop Smoking Service is here to help you kick the habit. We understand that smoking is an addiction and giving up isn’t always easy. We’ve got the specialist advice and support to make it that bit easier.
Lanarkshire Stop Smoking Service
The Lanarkshire Stop Smoking Service is run by specialist nurses. They hold Stop Smoking groups which offer support from others who are also quitting. This approach is proven to be the most effective way to quit smoking.
Groups are held all over Lanarkshire on a weekly basis for six weeks with two follow-up sessions. We provide free Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) so you don't have to go to your doctor for a prescription. Phone 08452177707 or text "Advice" to 81066
There's a local group near where you live or work. So if you've tried before to stop, now's the time to try again. You are always welcome back to have another go.
All you have to do is phone 08452 17 77 07 or text "Advice" to 81066 to find a group near you.
The service also provides one-to-one support if you are unable to attend a group, for example, if you are housebound.
And there is stop smoking assistance available for patients at Monklands, Hairmyres and Wishaw General hospitals.
Community Pharmacy
Stop smoking support is also available from any community pharmacy. Just drop in – no appointment is required.
